Holidays to Cancun: What to do

If you’re heading to Cancun this year for a holiday you may be wondering when is the best time to go, what are is some local attractions, and what the weather will be like. Cancun Holidays are a tropical playground for everyone including the rich and famous. It is not unusual to see a variety of actors or musicians enjoying a little beach time.

About Cancun

Cancun has been made famous for its breath-taking beauty and favourable weather. It is also a preferred holiday destination due to its location and great many attractions. With near daily flights from almost every corner of the world, Cancun is an easily explored destination.

Situated on the northeast coat of the state of Quintana Roo, Cancun was developed specifically for tourism. What was once a fisherman’s village is now a certified international tourism city. This certification, through the World Tourism Organization, has helped to make Cancun one of the most renowned resorts in the world.

When to Go

Cancun is a good holiday destination year-round; however, there are more desirable times to go than others. For instance, the time from May to September can bring rainy days. Typical winter months can see temperatures in the mid-30s while the days of summer can see the temperatures reach over 40 Celsius.

Cultural Things to Do in Cancun

Aside from relaxing on the endless beaches and swimming in the turquoise waters, there are many cultural things to do in and around the city of Cancun. The month you choose to visit may bring with it natural occurring celebrations.

If you’re visiting during Halloween you will not want to miss the spectacular shows of All Soul’s Day or Day of the Dead. Throughout the city are parades lead by candlelight and flowers. Bullfights remain a part of the Mexican culture and can be seen each Wednesday at Plaza de Toros in central Cancun.

There are more cenotes (underground rivers) to visit than you will have time for but do your best to take a dip into at least one of them. A good one to visit is Actun Chen, which is just before the ruins of Tulum. The Mayan ruins at Tulum are also another site worth seeing. Bring lots of water, a camera and bathing suit. Here you can actually follow the stairs down to the beach and enjoy the day cooling off in the Caribbean Sea.

Adventure Things to Do in Cancun

There is no shortage of adventure or activities in Cancun. The main theme is beach and water sports so anything from kite surfing to jet skiing to parasailing can be done in any given day. Calmer beaches are perfect place for sailing, windsurfing or kayaking. There is also deep-sea fishing, snorkelling and diving.

For adventurous attractions, check out the Wet n’ Wild Waterpark. There is also Maya Ventura and AquaWorld. Along the way you will notice may zip line companies offering a wild jungle trek by way of a zip line. With so many things to do, getting started could prove the biggest challenge.
