Holidays to Maldives

Holidays in the Maldives offer visitors the chance to relax and explore a remote corner of the world. The Maldives, officially named the Republic of Maldives, is an island country that is found in the Indian Ocean. There are a total of 26 atolls that make up this island nation. The islands themselves are the very tops of an undersea mountain range in the Indian Ocean that stretches all the way to the Arabian Sea. The breathtakingly beautiful surroundings of the Maldives make this location intriguing to people from around the world.

Prior to the 1970s, visitors did not frequent this region as a tourist destination. However, since that time it has grown to be a popular getaway especially for European travellers. The country's population is about 300,000 people, and they are spread across 185 islands. Tourism is a big industry here and a vital aspect of the economy. The first tourist resorts opened in 1972 and since that time many others have opened to accommodate a larger number of tourists. Most of the resorts offer modern facilities and amenities.

Visitors usually arrive for holidays to the Maldives at the Male International Airport, located on Hulhule Island.

One of the activities that draw people to the Maldives is diving. The seas are warm throughout the year and offer excellent visibility. In fact, the water is so clear it is easy to see the fish and marine life from a boat. Water sports are another popular activity in the Maldives. Many people spend the weekends parasailing and water skiing; surfing and swimming are also popular. Some people play water polo as well, and visitors can find rental facilities for all of the gear you need to play along the beach walkways.

Excursions are another activity to participate in while on holidays in the Maldives. You can visit many of the local islands here by boat. Charter service is readily available to take you to some of the best diving locations in the world. The harbour areas make this process easy, as there are numerous fishing boats and facilities readily available to accommodate your needs, whether you wish to fish, dive or just take a tour around the islands.

You can walk through the forested areas on treks or expand your view of the culture by interacting with local villagers. A popular activity to participate in is night fishing. Fishing is a critical component of this culture, and a night reef fishing trip allows you to explore the vast waters by moonlight and enjoy this part of the culture. Many of the resorts provide beach access for their guests. You will find numerous restaurants available, most featuring international cuisine. For shopping, explore the small artisan shops and markets.

Holidays to the Maldives are a great way to get away from stress and allow you to explore a simple, relaxing way of life.
