Holidays to Madrid

Stretching from the edge of the Barrio de Salamanca to the neighbourhoods of Chamartin and Chamberi, Madrid is a city to be seen. Holidays in Madrid allow visitors to experience what Spain has to offer the world - culture, heritage, excitement, and arts of all kinds. The city is ancient, so the oldest quarters are best explored on foot, especially since some of the roads are narrow.

The architecture alone is worth every second of a holiday to Madrid. You will find the oldest section of the city right in the centre of it all, situated between the Royal Palace and the Parque del Buen Retiro (the midtown forest). Mixed among the commercial buildings and residential structures you will find ancient buildings with old red-tile roofs. You will also see Mudejar churches set amongst it all, with their redbrick facades. With more than 500 years of architecture to behold, Madrid offers a wide range of sights.

For art lovers, you will not get much better than holidays to Madrid’s museum row. The legacy of art just within the walls of the city is something to behold. But inside places like the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofia Museum, and smaller art repositories such as the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and the Sorolla Museum, just to name a few, you will see some of the world’s most priceless pieces of art. There is so much art in Madrid you may need to book another holiday just to take it all in and then explore the city on your next trip.

For the history buff, holidays in Madrid are an ideal respite filled with the sensation that you are stepping outside your own time and into another. Because the city is so old, you cannot help but feel the energy of all the history that the city has. Do not miss the Centro Historico, especially later in the evenings. You will get a true sense of Spain’s glorious golden age just walking through the Plaza Mayor when it is almost empty.

No one can take holidays to Madrid without experiencing the local fare. Nibble on tapas well into the night, which is the traditional way to eat in Spain. Learn about the local wines and taste various tapas in the eateries of Cava Baja.

The nightlife in Madrid is like no other in all of Europe. When other cities go to sleep, Madrid comes to life. The neighbourhoods of Cheuca, Lavapies, and Malasana contain some of the liveliest bars and nightclubs that will allow you to party until dawn on Madrid holidays, just make sure you leave the kids at home.
