Holidays to Cuba

Officially named the Republic of Cuba, this conglomerate of islands is comprised of a special municipality called the Isle of Youth (Isla de la Juventud), 195 islets and keys totalling an area of more than 110,000 square kilometres.

Trinidad and Havana have gone undergone extensive preservation and restoration over the past several years. Still, Cuba is in a time warp in its 50-year old revolution. Walking around the cities during your holidays in Cuba, you cannot help but feel like you have stepped back in time. It is even more prevalent when staying at a casa particular, which is a private home that rents rooms. These homes are the best way to experience what life is like for the average Cubano.

Holidays in Cuba will indulge visitors with gleaming resorts, history, excitement, glorious coastlines and endless beaches. Party goers will enjoy cocktails and music for which the country is internationally known. Old Havana boasts some of the most well preserved colonial buildings, such as the world famous Malecon. Any holidays to Cuba should include a visit to Habana Vieja, or Old Havana, which has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cuba remains a country of two distinct worlds: a new modern world and the old “Al Capone” era, which are still prominent at every street corner, typified by the modern luxury cars that drive alongside old 1950s models. Holidays to Cuba can provide even the most seasoned traveller with culture shock but rest assured, the country is definitely worth a visit.

When enjoying Cuba holidays, be sure to take in the Museum of the Revolution and Granma Memorial from the 1950s as well as Plaza de la Revolution. Combine this with a visit to the Historical and Military Park and you will have a great understanding of the country’s historical challenges. Enjoy the many artistic features, diverse architecture and distinctive culture Cuba has to share. Before you leave, do not forget to stock up on the country’s world-renowned Havana cigars and local Cuban rum.

Weather

The weather is always pleasant in Cuba due to its prime geographical location. Holidays in Cuba will consist of sunny tropical days. The summer months of July and August are by far the hottest and most humid of the year, while the winter months of December to February are the coolest. Between May and October is when Cuba experiences its highest rainfall. Although there is no such thing as a bad time to take holidays in Cuba, November to April provide the most pleasant climate, often preferred by tourists.

Currency

The official currency of Cuba is the Cuban Peso. Denominations range from one, to 100 pesos, with coins in one, five and 20 centavos. Since 2004 U.S. Dollars are no longer accepted. Money can be changed at local banks and official exchange bureaus.
