Holidays to Maui

The island of Maui is consistently voted by travellers as the best island for holidaymakers in the world. Maui has stunning natural beauty, white sandy beaches and luxurious resorts all rolled into one compact package. Whether it is gourmet cuisine or world-class windsurfing, Maui holidays really offer an incredible expanse of activities to make for a perfect luxury break.

Maui has an incredible variety of wildlife and natural beauty. It is visited by humpback whales and green turtles, and benefits from lush rainforests, soaring volcanoes and deep valleys. Maui was formed thousands of years ago when a set of two volcanoes erupted, eroding over time to form one island. From that rocky start the island has developed fantastic plant life and a number of exotic animal species.

Both of the main towns are located in the ‘neck’ of the island, but most visitors do not spend a lot of time in Kahului and Wailuku, leaving straight away once they arrive at the airport. It is the small side of the island, West Maui, that is most visited by those on Maui holidays. The land around Kaanapali is useless for growing sugar cane – the island’s major non-tourism industry – and was used in the past by the big sugar cane producers as a spot where their employees could relax. Since the 1960s it has been transformed into one pristine luxury resort after the other, and this is the area where most tourists end up staying.

Kapalua is where those on high-end Maui holidays will enjoy the top class golf courses, hotels, villas and shops. It is the truly upscale clientele that has helped Kapalua and nearby Lahaina to developed into the high-end resort areas they are today. Lahaina used to be the capital city of Hawaii, and is now listed as a natural historic landmark.

The West Maui Mountains rise up above Kaanapali and Lahaina. Maui is paradise for lovers of scenic natural landscapes, which are all dominated by the 10,000 foot high volcano. The beaches, of course, are also absolutely amazing, with Kaanapali Beach one of the best examples. With powdery soft sand and warm water all year round, Maui holidays provide some of the best beach life experiences to be found in Hawaii.

What really makes Maui unique is the possibility for those on holidays to Maui to experience both remote natural wonders and the benefits of a larger town with world class shops, bars and clubs. Anyone on holidays in Maui can start their morning with a relaxing massage at one of the fine resorts, head out midday to have a challenging trek in the highlands, and then return in the evening for an exceptional dinner at one of the many fine restaurants. Maui truly offers every island experience rolled into one astoundingly beautiful location.
