Holidays to Costa Blanca

Costa Blanca is in the southwest of Spain, stretching from Denia in the north to Murcia in the south.

Denia and Javea are two attractive towns in the shadow of mountains. Denia has a 12th century castle and the Museo Ethnolgico gives travellers on Costa Blanca holidays a fascinating insight into the culture and history of Denia. In Javea the Iglesia de San Bartolome is a church well worth visiting, but it is the scenery that will really captivate you.

The historic town of Altea is a must see for those on holidays in Costa Blanca. The picturesque town of 15,000 inhabitants has attractive buildings and its Sunday market is an excellent day trip.

The vibrant town of Benidorm is one of the leading resorts in Spain. It is a centre for package holidays, but there is still plenty to see if you don’t want to lie on a beach. The old city centre is an ideal way to get to know what Benidorm was before the hotels took over.

To the south of Benidorm, La Villajoyosa is renowned for chocolate and its beautiful painted houses. It became famous when it began importing cacao from Ecuador and Venezuela. If you visit La Villajoysa be sure to try the local favourite, hot chocolate with churros.

Alicante is the principal city of Costa Blanca and has many historic attractions to visit. There is also excellent shopping to be found by travellers on Costa Blanca holidays in this exquisite city.

Away from the coast, Elche is known worldwide thanks to its re-enactment of the life of the Virgin Mary. It is performed every August over two days and has been staged since 1632.

Santa Pola is on the coast, to the south of Alicante. It features a 16th century fortress built to fend off the pirates who sailed the Mediterranean. An archaeological museum displays artefacts of ancient Roman and Iberian life in the area.

Murcia is a large inland city at the southern end of Costa Blanca. Among the interesting places to visit is the Baroque style Cathedral de Santa Maria which was completed in the 15th century. The castle of Monteagudo reflects the Moorish heritage in the area. There are also a number of museums including one dedicated to local artist Ramon Gaya.

All along the coast there are plenty of activities including diving, golf and windsurfing. You will never be short of restaurants or bars to visit no matter where you are in the region with seafood and pastries two of the local specialities.

Costa Blanca has so much more to offer than just the package holidays to Benidorm. Cities like Murcia and Alicante are steeped in history and magnificent architecture. Towns like Denia and La Villajoyosa have character and depth. Holidays to Costa Blanca can offer the ideal getaway, no matter the type of break you want.
