Holidays to Bodrum

The western side of Bodrum has a more sedate life of yachts, boats, marinas and sailing. This part of town boasts a great collection of bijou bars, fine restaurants and boutique stores that cater for the sailing fraternity. There are supermarkets displaying quality wines and bottles of olive oil, as well as all the apparel to be expected on board ship.

The eastern quarter is a typical Mediterranean resort area with wild bars playing pulsating music, nightclubs that only wake up at 11:00 pm and a wide selection of restaurants. There are also a number of quieter, more sedate clubs for those on holidays to Bodrum who are not particularly interested in the latest Euro sounds.

Bodrum was the site of the famous seventh Wonder of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum of Helikarnassus – an impressive structure that was destroyed by earthquake in 1304; its foundations are still visible. Present day landmarks include the Bodrum Castle, the Bodrum Amphitheatre, the Windmills of Bodrum and the old city gate of Myndos. A wonderful place for travellers on holidays to Bodrum to visit is the Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Bodrum Castle, which has exhibits of some marvellous finds from around the Turkish coastline.

There is plenty to occupy you during your holiday in Bodrum. There is an excellent Turkish bath, and there are also natural mud baths a little further along the coast where you simply walk into the muddy water, roll around and then wash yourself off. There are also lots of water-based activities, and hiring a boat is relatively easy. There are opportunities for windsurfing, scuba diving and snorkelling, cruise tours or a traditional ride on a gullet boat.

There is a very lively night scene in Bodrum, especially on the eastern side of town, where there are a great many nightclubs and bars catering to all tastes in music from R&B, dance, and funk to rock and Euro pop. Halikarnas is a massive, trendy outdoor nightclub, while the Bodrum Marine Club is one of the more unusual venues with a uniquely built catamaran set into the building. This club has a glass bottom dance floor through which you can see the local fish swimming.

There is a marvellous choice of restaurants around Bodrum providing a whole range of Turkish dishes, with special emphasis on fish platters. You will also find lots of meatball dishes, kebabs and grilled steaks when on Bodrum holidays.

Bodrum perfectly combines the thrill of a nightclub holiday alongside the Mediterranean with the sophistication of more sedate and elegant venues. There are the usual holiday haunts of bars and beaches but also beautiful, tranquil scenery and peaceful coves to sail around. Bodrum has busy markets and quiet streets, lively trendy bars and refined restaurants. Whatever your tastes, this seaside paradise is bound to be able to accommodate you.
