Puerto Vallarta

Holidays to Puerto Vallarta

Overview of Puerto Vallarta holidays

Occupying a large portion of Banderas Bay on the Pacific coast, with good air connections to the USA and Canada, Puerto Vallarta is a popular Mexican beach resort destination for many holidaymakers looking for sunshine, sand and surf. Holidays in Puerto Vallarta meet many of these criteria with the wide assortment of beaches attracting plenty of sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts.

Possibly the most famous of the beaches on the itinerary for holidays in Puerto Vallarta is Los Muertos Beach, or Playa de los Muertos, which is regularly buzzing with activity, partly due to the surrounding selection of hotels, restaurants and bars. The concentration of life that gathers on Los Muertos beach during the high season may not be to everyone’s taste but Puerto Vallarta has much more to offer in terms of beaches, so it is not difficult to find an alternative.

The beach at Playa de Oro is one example of an alternative to the resort centre and this more northerly beach also features a good number of hotels and opportunities for dining and drinking. Water sports such as parasailing and water skiing are on the agenda, too, at Playa de Oro and the area is generally considered safe and clean. Further out of town, to the south, the beach at Mismaloya is another example of the ocean-front destinations available to travellers on Puerto Vallarta holidays. Mismaloya claims fame through being the scene for the film The Night of the Iguana and the film set still plays a role in attracting visitors, who can explore the ruins and enjoy seafood cocktails by the ocean.

Beaches are very much the focal point for pretty much all holidays in Puerto Vallart. Local companies specialise in jungle treks, off-road adventures and ecological varieties of snorkelling, diving, fishing and whale-watching. In addition, dolphin discovery at Aquaventuras Park offers a family-friendly take on the sea life around Puerto Vallarta, with children’s adventures among the many experiences to be had. After this, many holidaymakers head back to the beach, or perhaps on to one of the many pubs and parties that evening in Puerto Vallarta has to offer.
