Holidays to Mexico

Mexico is bursting with Mayan temples, pyramids and archaeological treasures. The country remains a top holiday spot for its incredible waters, silky sand and bright sunshine. Mexico is also an inexpensive destination. This has only increased its popularity with travellers.

Mexico holidays should definitely include a visit to sites such as Chichen Itza and El Castillo. Both of these are incredible archaeological discoveries. While enjoying holidays in Mexico you will also want to take in some of the numerous water activities such as world-class snorkelling and scuba diving. The best spots can be found around Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and Cancun. These areas also happen to be where the largest resorts are located, so it’s easy to find a snorkelling guide if you don’t want to go it alone.

The country’s coastlines are bursting with water sports that include deep sea fishing, parasailing, water skiing, jet skis and just about anything else you can think of. The country is also renowned for its shopping. From your holiday in Mexico you can take home colourful textiles, ceramic sculptures, wood figurines and traditional beading, handmade by the local Huichol Indians. The best prices can be found at the numerous bazaars and markets that are scattered throughout any resort city or small village you may happen to visit. These markets also offer the best shopping experience when it comes to culture, sights, sounds and traditional cuisine.

Mexico is a country of celebration, and any holiday to Mexico should include at least one local festivity. The most popular and celebrated include Independence Day, which is on September 16th. Also celebrated with vigour are Day of the Dead – Dia de Muertos – which takes place over Halloween and into November. The Day of the Flag is another great celebration, which can be enjoyed during the month of February.

There is not any bad time to take holidays to Mexico, but there may be more preferable times. The summer months of June to September are when you will often see day time temperatures skyrocket into the mid-40s and cooling slightly to the high 20s at night time. The major tourist attractions are the least crowded and the beaches remain sparsely populated with heaps of room to spread out your beach towels and enjoy the local water activities.

The winter months offer very warm days between the high 20s to mid-30s with the least amount of rainfall. The months of December to April are the busiest.

For your holidays to Mexico, you will need to convert your currency to the local Mexican peso. Cash in the form of pesos is preferred, although American dollars are accepted in most places. Credit and debit cards are also widely accepted.
