Holidays to St Lucia

St. Lucia holidays are packed with duty-free shopping, activities galore, visits to quaint fishing villages, marvellous historical sites and amazing landscapes. Visitors on holidays to St. Lucia will marvel at the famous Piton Mountain range where the two tallest peaks soar up into the sky creating the illusion of two ice chance to observe the rainforest without damaging its delicate ecosystem.

Tourists with a more urban bent will enjoy the capital city of Castries, a bustling waterfront town that caters to cruise line visitors. The city offers a magnificent duty-free shopping mall and market, and guests can visit the town centre in the Derek Walcott Square, explore the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and view the few remaining buildings of Creole architecture with their intricate gingerbread-patterned balconies.

Morne Fortune marks the site of the fiercest battle between the French and English in the 18th century and is located on a hilltop overlooking the town. The site is the home of the remains of Fort Charlotte and the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.

Outside of Charlotte, partygoers on holidays to St. Lucia will appreciate the Rodney Bay area of the island. Some of the most spectacular beaches in St. Lucia are located there and a Friday night street party brings out locals and tourists alike. Rodney Bay is also home to Pigeon Island National Park and its small fortress Fort Rodney.

Marigot Bay has a secret harbour and many well-known celebrities have second homes in this scenic haven on the Leeward Coast. Anse La Raye is a traditional fishing village where boats are still built by hand and bakeries turn out Creole bread in wood-fired ovens.

Soufriere is the ideal spot for ecological visitors on holidays to St. Lucia. Located at the base of the Piton Mountains, it is the gateway to snorkelling, diving, dolphin and whale watching, as well as for the land-based activities of birdwatching, mountain biking and hiking. Tourists on St. Lucia holidays will also be thrilled by the Soufriere Drive-In Volcano, where sulphur pools bubble up and run off into hot springs. A dip in the sulphur waters is supposed to be a good remedy for respiratory and skin ailments.

Near Soufriere are the Diamond Botanical Gardens & Waterfall, originally constructed by King Louis XVI of France, or one can head over to Fond Doux Estate, which was the oldest working plantation in the Caribbean, nestled between the peaks of the Piton Mountains.

There are stunning beaches in St. Lucia and visitors can choose from the glimmering white sand of La Toc Beach, the locals’ favourite Reduit Beach, Anse Couchon for the best snorkelling or Anse Chastanet with its black sands, secluded cove and gently swaying palm trees.
