Holidays to Aruba

Overview of Aruba holidays

Beaches are the target for many of the holidaymakers who make their way to the Caribbean island of Aruba and the beaches around the island present even avid beachgoers with a surprisingly wide selection of possibilities. Possibly the most famous beach in Aruba is Palm Beach and with the many hotels and amenities nearby, this becomes a central spot for many holidays in Aruba. However, it would be a mistake to think that Palm Beach is representative of the only sort of beach to be found on the island. Depending on taste, you can find wide open spaces and popular sunbathing spots on the leeward side of the island, or more secluded and possibly more romantic beaches on the windward side of the island. One of the more secluded spots that is worth a visit is Mangel Halto, in the south-east of the island near the Spanish Lagoon, where there is also a great experience to be had from shore diving.

The abundance of beach areas means that holidays in Aruba also frequently feature water-based activities and water sports, with snorkelling and sailing among the most popular ways to get into or onto the water. There are plenty of tours and organised trips possible, including to the Antilla shipwreck and it is also possible to receive instruction in diving and snorkelling. If you want to keep dry, there are also submarine and semi-submarine tours that explore the beauties of the underwater areas around Aruba. Alternatively, sailing in different forms is also popular and a trip on a luxury catamaran is an agreeable way to discover the seas around the island.

It would be a mistake to think that the sunshine, sea and sand are all that there is on offer during holidays in Aruba, a variety of land-based activities are also available to fill the time between trips to the magnificent beaches. A large part of the history of Aruba was based on gold and there are gold mills in both the north and the south of the island, at Bushiribana and Balashi, which can be visited today. Moreover, the charming town of Oranjestad is perfect for a leisurely stroll. Here it is possible to enjoy the shops, bars and restaurants in the quieter periods between cruise ship stops, or to organise a tour to discover the interior of this welcoming jewel of an island.
