Holidays to Cairns

When planning holidays to Cairns you are in for a treat as the entire city is geared towards tourists. The city is found in the middle of rain forests and is also a good starting point to explore the stunning natural beauty in Kuranda and Daintree. The Daintree forest is a bit more off the beaten track and consequently has fewer tourists visiting. This makes for a peaceful and tranquil visit in harmony with nature. There are many tours and guides available so you can make the most of your Cairns holidays.

Holidays in Cairns offer other natural attractions including Copperlode Dam and the Atherton Tablelands. All of this nature makes for many great walks and there are over 200 different ones to choose from in the World Heritage Area. For those wanting a more controlled experience, the Cairns Wildlife Dome is not to be missed.

Cairns is a great place for fans of Australia’s wildlife and much can be seen from the many areas. There are birds, mammals and reptiles, many of which are unique to the continent. These can be seen from Mount Lewis, Lamb Range or Mount Hipipamee, which are all worth a visit. Holidays in Cairns really benefit from all of the natural beauty that is available nearby.

Sports fans will not be disappointed, with Cairns boasting very successful rugby and cricket teams. There are many hotels, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets, offering something for everyone.

As well as everything else that Cairns has to offer, there is the world famous Great Barrier Reef. This is the largest reef of its kind in the world and so there are great underwater views to be had. There are also a few reef islands scattered around the reef, some of which offer accommodation - perfect for a sneaky getaway. Popular destinations include Green Island and Fitzroy Island, only 45 minutes away from Cairns by ferry.

Small dive boats are available with a tour guide as well as larger operations that cater for the less experienced diver and snorkeller. After taking in the breathtaking underwater sites of the Great Barrier Reef, why not try out the other wet pursuit of white water rafting. If you would rather be above water than under the water then hang gliding and ballooning are also exciting options for those on Cairns holidays. There is even sky diving for the thrill-seeking traveller.

There is also local history available in the form of the Duyfken, which is moored at Marlin Warf. This was the first recorded ship to visit Australia from Europe and is well worth visiting as it now incorporates a floating museum offering a taste of what the long voyage from Europe was like.
