Holidays to Seoul

The image of Seoul is no longer one of a harsh concrete city that it once was. Nowadays you will find a softer and gentler side to the city with its landscaped parks and the gentle curves of the river as it flows directly through the centre of town. When walking through the streets, visitors on holidays in Seoul will find fantastic ancient palaces and shrines sitting amongst the more modern skyscrapers, which makes for a very interesting and diverse cityscape. Most tourists find that the simplest way to travel around Seoul is to use the subway; it is quick, easy and serves all the main areas of interest.

Most tourists on holidays to Seoul prefer to visit in spring and autumn, but if you visit in the winter the city will be covered in snow and is really quite beautiful. There are plenty of attractions for you to visit in Seoul no matter when you choose to visit. There are historic destinations such as the Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was built in 1395 and is now home to the National Folk Museum of Korea. A visit to Namsangol Hanok Village shows traditional Korean homes from the Joseon Dynasty and is a must see for any tourist.

If you take the Namsan Park cable car to the summit of the mountain you can visit the Maritime Aquarium and Botanical Gardens or, if theme parks are your thing, you can take a trip to Lotte World, which is the largest indoor theme park in the world. There are plenty of attractions to keep travellers on Seoul holidays busy, but if you prefer a more gentle activity then you could always browse the wonderful art galleries and museums of which there are over 100 dotted around the city. There are also a fabulous selection of antique shops and stalls to shop in.

The more serious shoppers will prefer to visit Myeong-dong, which is considered to be Seoul's retail heaven. It has huge department stores, bargain outlet stores and plenty of boutiques to keep even the most dedicated shopaholic happy. When you have had your fill of shopping you can visit the Myeong-dong Catholic Church, where you will find peace and tranquillity in its extensive gardens.

Eating out in Seoul is an experience in itself and the city offers everything from stalls selling cheap noodles to restaurants offering fine dining. There are plenty of options for those on holidays in Seoul to choose from and lots of different cuisines available to taste – from local specialities to cheeseburgers or kebabs, you will find it all here. Tourists who prefer to eat traditional Korean food should try the restaurants in the Gangdong-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu districts of Seoul.
