Holidays to Busan

Overview of Busan holidays

If beaches are your thing there are a number of places that you can spend time in the sun while on holidays in Busan. The most popular of the beaches in the area is probably Gwang-an, which is easy to get to and of good quality. Gwang-an has extra special appeal at night, with a light show that illuminates the nearby bridge, although the nearby building developments have spoiled the natural view somewhat. Another beach that can be easily reached from Busan is Hae-undae, which buzzes with crowds during the summer season and has become known by many as the best beach in South Korea.

Holidays in Busan, like any other holidays in Asia, would not be complete without a taste of the orient in the local cuisine, which has built up a strong following in the west. Fish and seafood dishes are on offer in many restaurants in Busan and there is also the chance to try the raw fish experience, if that is to your liking. At the restaurant Geumsu Bokguk, it is also possible to try the legendary blowfish, which can be fatal if prepared the wrong way. As well as restaurants in Busan there is the Jagalchi fish market to explore and in this extensive warehouse area on the waterfront, almost any seafood imaginable can be bartered for and bought. Boat tours of the harbour are also possible from the pier by the fish market.

Other things on the must-see list for an itinerary in Asia are the temples and Busan holidays include the opportunity to visit the remarkable Seokbulsa Temple, which is an enclave carved into the rock in the side of a mountain. Buddhist images adorn the interior and the Seokbulsa Temple often proves to be a highlight of any visit to Busan. The Beomeosa Temple is another almost obligatory sight on Busan holidays and provides a fabulous photo opportunity with the incredible architecture set against a fabulous mountain backdrop.

The mountains themselves are also an attraction in Busan and a hike on Geumjeong Mountain is likely to appeal to enthusiasts, even if non-holiday periods are better for avoiding the crowds and getting a proper sense of the area. On returning to Busan, there are plenty of lively bars to pick up a spot of refreshment.
