Holidays to Cape Town

Holidays in Cape Town can offer some of the most exciting sports and activities to be found anywhere in the world. A cycle tour of Table Mountain provides a thrilling experience as well as the opportunity to discover the true beauty of the mountain and its unique flora. The truly adventurous can try one of the reputable companies that offer kloofing (otherwise known as canyoning), a combination of hiking, swimming, climbing and jumping.

Holidays to Cape Town are also great for divers with its corals, caves, wrecks and dazzling array of fish. Cape Town holidays can offer the chance to enjoy the experience of a lifetime as visitors can take an underwater tour to scuba dive or snorkel with Great White sharks. These magnificent predators can be seen in their natural habitat and, for those who do not wish to enter the water, the sharks feed at the surface and will swim close to the boat providing plenty of photo opportunities.

No Cape Town holidays are complete without a trip to Table Mountain. Table Mountain has several attractions including the Table Mountain Cableway which carries visitors to the summit of the mountain. The views are truly spectacular and at the top there is a café and souvenir shop. Check the weather conditions before going as the cableway does not operate in high winds, and when the mountain is shrouded in clouds the trip is not worthwhile. The Table Mountain National Park covers around three quarters of the peninsula and is the main attraction on the mountain. Signal Hill is part of the park and it affords splendid views of the surrounding area from its 350 metre high summit, particularly at night.

There are many companies offering tours in Cape Town and the surrounding area. The Aquila Game Reserve is an easy day trip from Cape Town, and visitors can see lions, wildebeest, crocodiles, zebra, leopards, giraffes and many other game species from open 4-wheel drive vehicles. With over 170 different species of birds the reserve is also ideal for bird-watchers. Other tours take visitors through the beautiful countryside that is home to some of Cape Town’s vineyards. Others take the coastal roads around the Cape Peninsula taking in stunning scenery, vegetation and wildlife. Boat trips to see the fur seals on Duiker Island, tours to the Botanical Gardens and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to see the colony of penguins are optional extras. Hop-on-hop-off tours in Cape Town itself provide an easy way to get around the city, as well as cover the main tourist attractions.

Holidays to Cape Town offer plenty of entertainment. Cape Town has a number of restaurants offering a range of cuisines from traditional African food to Italian and from Turkish to Charly’s famous chocolate cupcakes. Those who want something a little different can try the Savoy Cabbage, which is renowned for its inventive dishes, many of which include local game meats such as wildebeest and zebra. Evening entertainment ranges from relaxed reggae bars to sophisticated cocktail bars.
