Kenya Safaris

Kenya Safari Holidays

Holidays in Kenya are the chance to enjoy some of Africa’s best wildlife attractions. With its stunning scenery and fabulous national parks, safaris have long been a mainstay of the Kenyan tourism industry. Kenya’s wildlife parks such as the Tsavo National Park number amongst the best places in Africa for spotting wild game, including lions, leopards, elephants and the famous migration of the wildebeest. Kenya also ranks amongst the world’s top five best bird-watching destinations.

No holidays in Kenya would be complete without a safari. Kenyan Safaris can range in duration from four days to over 10 days. Fantastic Kenyan holidays can combine both a visit to several national parks such as the Samburu National Park and the famous Masai Mara in the Great Rift Valley and a relaxing stay at one of Kenya’s coastal resorts. Tourists on Kenya safari holidays have the chance to see cheetahs, black-maned lions, elephants, leopards and buffalo. All meals are provided and guests stay overnight in 3 or 4-star lodges.

For an optional second part of the trip guests can fly to one of Kenya’s coastal resorts such as Mombasa where there will be opportunities for deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, boat trips or simply relaxing on one of Kenya’s spectacular beaches. Each type of safari will offer something a little different. For example some may include a trip to Mzima Springs where the hippo community can be viewed from the safety of an underwater viewing chamber. Others may include a trip to Lake Nakuru to see the hundreds of flamingos that feed in its shallow waters. All the safaris will be accompanied by knowledgeable local guides.

Many safaris will offer optional extras such as balloon rides, which are a great way of seeing wildlife. Kenya safari holidays are suitable for just about everyone, and some companies will offer specially tailored packages. Some safaris are more suitable for families whilst others will be ideal for those who want a more active or adventurous safari. Day-long treks and horseback safaris add to the adventure of the holiday.

The indigenous people of the Masai Mara are the Maasai, who still retain their distinctive tribal customs and dress. Today they still herd their cattle on the African plains and many Kenya safari holidays will include an opportunity to discover more about their fascinating way of life.

One of the highlights of a visit to Masai Mara is the annual wildebeest migration, when millions of wildebeest cross the Mara on their way to the southern Serengeti plains. The sight is never to be forgotten as millions of wildebeest and thousands of zebra, gazelles and elands graze and trek across the rivers. Tourists wishing to view this spectacular migration should time their safari accordingly, although it should be remembered that Kenya safari holidays are a great choice for viewing wildlife at any time of the year.
