Port Aventura Holidays

Fun for travellers of all ages, PortAventura is an ideal location for an exhilarating holiday. One of the best entertainment destinations in southern Europe, the Spanish resort offers perfect weather and provides plenty of excitement. It is also a great place to relax with friends or for a family holiday.

When to go

Located south of Barcelona in northeastern Spain, PortAventura is a year-round destination. Temperatures start to rise in May, with highs starting to reach the mid-20s. The hottest (and busiest) time of the year is July and August with highs often reaching 30 degrees. Milder temperatures return in the autumn and winter, when the mercury tends to hover in the mid- to low-teens.

Where to Stay

The resort has four themed four-star hotels offering guests great amenities and superb comfort. Most hotels also have a kids club to keep younger guests entertained with special activities. The PortAventura Hotel PortAventura recreates a beautiful fishing village, while the PortAventura Hotel Caribe is a tropical paradise with an inviting pool with white sands. Inspired by Mexico, the PortAventura Hotel El Paso has stunning gardens and a seducing infinity pool. The PortAventura Hotel Gold River harkens backs to the Wild West with its own town hall, Sheriff’s Office and train station. There are cabins surrounded by forest but with the latest in modern comforts.

Located next to the PortAventure Hotel Gold River, the five-star PortAventure Hotel Mansión de Lucy is the resort’s newest accommodation option. The two hotels together make up Sullivan City, where guests are transported back in time to the Old West. Built to resemble a luxurious mansion, the hotel features inviting suites and superior rooms along with a private pool and garden.

Local Attractions & Events

First opened in 1995, PortAventura attaches some four million visitors each year, making it one of the most popular theme parks in Europe. In addition to rides and up to 40 daily shows in five themed areas, the park has seven roller coasters for adrenaline junkies including some of the fastest and tallest in Europe. The resort is also home to the popular Costa Caribe Aquatic Park, one of the largest water parks in Spain.

Mediterrània is based on a typical costal town in Catalonia with restaurants and shops. There are also a number of rides and shows, including the Sésamo Parade. In July and August, the Sésamo Parade Special Light and FiestAventura with themed floats and fireworks are added. Rides include the Furius Baco. Accelerating to 135 kilometres per hour in just three seconds, it is one of Europe’s fastest roller coasters.

In the Far West, visitors come face-to-face with the American Wild West. Highlights include a duelling wooden roller coaster, Stampida, and a white-water tube raft adventure ride through the Grand Canyon. The atmosphere in Polynesia is laid back with the Tutuki Splash water ride along an erupting volcano and the submarine-theme Sea Odyssey 4D show.

Amidst the temples of México is one of the world’s tallest drop tower rides – Hurakon Condor, while a massive Chinese buffet and a replica of the Great Wall are found in China. China is home to Dragon Khan, often considered one of the world’s best roller coasters, and Shambhala: Expedición al Himalaya, one of the fastest and tallest coasters in Europe.

Opened in 2021, a fifth themed area is based on Sesame Street. In SésamoAventura, children get to mingle with their favourite Sesame Street characters. There are several daily shows and rides designed especially for younger visitors, including a monorail, roller coaster, water carousel, drop tower ride, and a farm.

There are special events throughout the year at PortAventura, including Oktoberfest. The park is completely transformed during Halloween with spooky decorations and thousands of pumpkins, as well as shows with monsters and other creepy visitors. Christmas is also a magical time to visit with coloured lights and festive decorations throughout the resort and enchanting shows to celebrate the season.
