New luxury resort planned for Alabama

12 July 2012

There are plans to develop an existing casino into a luxury resort in the US state of Alabama. The aim is to bring more tourists to the area around Wetumpka Creek, a town just outside Montgomery.

The local gaming authority announced the development plans and work has already begun on the transformation of the casino. It is hoped that the project will be finished by May 2013. This is to be the Wind Creek Wetumpka Casino and Hotel, and the company is aiming for luxury across the board. The company also owns a Wind Creek Hotel in Atmore and this has achieved a four-diamond rating.

Plans for the resort include a hotel of 20 storeys with more than 280 rooms and suites, all of which are to have views of the Coosa River. The casino will cover 90,000 square feet and will have 2,500 gaming machines as well as entertainment rooms.

Guests taking luxury holidays at the resort will be able to choose from a wide range of dining options, including a grill, coffee shop, snack bar, and a restaurant for fine dining. There will also be a buffet option with views of the river. It is hoped that the new development will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy and provide employment for hundreds of people.

The hotel is owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, the members of which are all descended from the original Indians who lived in the area that is now Alabama and Georgia.
