18 May 2012

The Marriott group of luxury hotels has just announced that it is to open its 250th hotel in Asia. The group has a vast portfolio of properties all over the world and Asia has become one of the major growth areas for the hospitality industry. This is a milestone property which is to be located in Bo’ao in China. At the moment the group has 129 hotels already in operation in Asia, and there are currently a further 121 that are at various stages of development. When these hotels are complete the group will have 75,000 rooms located in 15 different Asian countries. The brands that are in existence in Asia include JW Marriott, Bulgari, Renaissance and Courtyard, among others.

The managing director for Marriott in this region has stated that the group is delighted to have reached this milestone and is looking forward to achieving even more growth in the region. The Asian countries have become very important in the hospitality industry, as the region is set to be one of the strongest areas for both tourism and commercial activity. In China alone the group is expecting to open at least one hotel a month over the next three years.

The aim is to make the facilities at the new hotels attractive to both leisure and business travellers, and both international travellers and domestic. The increase in hotels in the region ensures that travellers will be encouraged to visit, particularly when the properties offer a good standard of luxury.
