A mini-guide to Niagara Falls
27 February 2012

As a well-known holiday paradise, the Canadian Niagara Falls is loaded with great family adventure and entertainment choices. With a little planning, holidays to Niagara Falls can be one of the most exciting of your life.

Getting there

Although there are no direct flights to Niagara Falls, many flights can get you within an hour of the city. The most popular way to arrive is by a destination flight to Toronto, Ontario where the Niagara Falls is a short one-hour drive away from the city.

Upon your arrival

Once you arrive at Niagara Falls it won’t take long to see that the city is a vibrant and exciting place filled with international hotels, great shopping opportunities, vast amounts of entertainment and numerous dining choices. It is also a city of great natural beauty with large trees, green space and of course, the magnificent Niagara Falls.

Entertainment

Niagara Falls is an ideal destination for families, singles, group weekends, or romantic getaways. Adults can take in a wide variety of nightlife that include concerts, fine dining, casinos, spas, wine country tours, golf courses and numerous discos and pubs.

Kids will also have a great time as they take in a day of sightseeing; enjoy the Skylon Tower indoor water park, kid-friendly restaurants, Butterfly Conservatory, Marineland, and the Clifton Hill Ferris wheel.

The falls

Regardless of what you choose to do on your first day, a trip to witness the spectacular Niagara Falls should be tops on your list. Gaze in wonderment at the sheer size and noise of the falls before you head down to hop on board a boat to get even closer to them. A popular choice is the Maid of the Mist boat tour. Cruising passengers to the base of the falls since the 1950s, this boat tour is sure to give you a fill of how powerful these falls truly are.

The Niagara Falls can also been seen from a helicopter tour. These small, personal tours of about six people include a commentated flight over the Niagara Falls as well as some of the historical landmarks in the area. You will also be able to see other surrounding cities and the Niagara wine region.

Frequent visitors

If you plan to stay in Niagara Falls for a longer duration of time or perhaps you are a repeat visitor, picking up a pass can save you heaps of money. Choices are the Niagara Falls Summer Adventure Pass or the Niagara Falls Winter Magic Pass. Both passes allow visitors to enjoy the many features and attractions in the area. The summer pass can be purchased from mid-April until late October and is good for four top experiences, while the winter pass is good for three magical attractions.

A great family day

For a way to see a little of everything in one day, the Niagara Falls Tour is a spectacular family value. The entire tour is between four and five hours, and it includes an up-close look at the falls, a trip up the Skylon Tower, and visits to Table Rock House, Canadian Horseshoe Falls and Queen Victoria Park.
