Holidays to Langkawi

The eponymous Pulau Langkawi is the site of most holidays to Langkawi; nearby Pulau Tuba is the only other inhabited island. Importantly, the region is entirely duty free.

Most Langkawi holidays are taken for sightseeing, relaxing and enjoying the incredible beaches. One of the most popular beaches is Pantai Pasir Hitam, which means “Black Sand.” Owing to iron ore deposits in the region, the sand is coloured in black and white shades – certainly something unusual to see when taking holidays in Langkawi. Other popular beach destinations include Pantai Cenang, which is the most popular beach in Langkawi; it features beautiful white sand and plenty of waterside entertainment. For those looking for something a little more secluded, Pantai Tengah, or Middle Beach, is an equally beautiful beach with a more relaxed atmosphere and considerably fewer tourists.

Additionally, the Seven Wells or Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, named for the seven pools along its path, is a site of natural beauty. Tourists are invited to bathe in the pools and slide down the smooth rock connecting them. A jungle trip is available around this area for the more adventurous holidaymakers.

For fantastic viewpoints, Gunung Raya is the tallest mountain on the island, standing proudly at 881 metres. A resort at the summit serves meals and refreshments, and offers a lookout tower so guests can truly experience the views. There are an incredible number of natural areas to behold when taking your holidays in Langkawi. The Legend Garden is highly recommended, which extends over 50 acres and offers a unique take on Langkawi heritage. Entry is affordable at RM5 for adults and is approximately £1 for children.

When you have had your fill of the glorious environment, there are several museums that offer something a little bit different. The Laman Padi Rice Garden has natural rice fields located within a beautiful garden. An English-speaking museum details the process of cultivating rice, a procedure little known to the Western World. Alternatively, Underwater World is open seven days a week and caters to family trips extremely well. Feeding times here come highly rated and admission is not particularly expensive. Langkawi also offers a world-class, 18-hole golf course located on the northern half of the island.

Tours are available also, with local companies offering everything from birdwatching and mangrove tours to a vivid and popular jet-ski tour of the islands: why not see the gorgeous views in style? These tours are available at a reasonable price, costing between £20 and £50 for a guided experience of the best that Langkawi holidays have to offer.

Holidays in Langkawi are generally for those looking for a relaxing, resort-style holiday, but venture a little bit deeper into the area and you will find plenty of adventure and culture.
