Holidays to Málaga

Málaga, the capital of Costa del Sol, is a bustling city that welcomes tourists from all over the world. It has everything ranging from high-rise corporate buildings to ancient streets befitting only the most pleasant of port cities. With holidays to Málaga, you get it all, lush vegetation, sunshine, urban culture, and relaxing beaches.

In recent years, the city of Málaga has been spruced up quite a bit. The historic buildings have been tastefully restored, while sophisticated bars, restaurants, and shops have sprung up throughout the area. Along with these pleasantries come museums, galleries, and other cultural touches such as theatres.

For an authentic Málaga holiday, you will want to visit some of the small fishing villages to get a taste of the region’s tradition. Though most of the villages have been modernised, Pedregalejo and El Palo still offer up some nuances of the days of old. Do not forget to eat as much fresh fish as possible in the many chiringuitos, also known as beachside bars.

If shopping is on your list of things to do on Málaga holidays, do not miss the Calle Marques de Larios. This is a pedestrian-only shopping street filled with elegant shops and galleries. As you stroll through this area, it is also worth your time to hit the Paseo del Parque for a pleasant walk through the palm-lined shady gardens the city is known for.

One cannot embark on holidays to Málaga without viewing some of the impressive ancient castles in the region. Two notable Moorish castles worth your time are Alcazaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro. Castillo de Gibralfaro has fantastic views of the city and suburbs, while Alcazaba is more ornately decorated and easier to access. These historic landmarks are free on Sunday afternoons.

For Picasso fans, Málaga is the place to visit. You can go to the birthplace of Picasso, Plaza de la Merced in the city centre and see many paintings and other objects related to the famous Cubist artist. Nearby you will also find the Picasso Museum. If you’ve got someone in your group that would like a broader expanse of art, do not miss the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo, which is housed in a former wholesale market but filled with an exciting collection of works and installations.

Holidays to Málaga are not just about the beaches and Picasso. If you want a sense of adventure and want to get a little exercise as well, why not try a little rock climbing. There is plenty of opportunity around Málaga. About 50 minutes from Málaga you will find the El Chorro gorge that is also home to the Kings Walkway. Even if you do not enjoy rock climbing, this is a spectacular sight to see.
