Ibiza Holidays

Ibiza is one of the Spanish Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea. It's a popular holiday destination due to its comfortably warm climate, its beautiful locations, including several designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and its world-famous clubbing scene. With a flight time of between two and three hours from the United Kingdon, Ibiza is one of the top holidays destinations for brits who want the sun and the fun without a long flight time.

Clubbing and more

Without a doubt, Ibiza's main attraction is the party atmosphere and many of the visitors come for a clubing holiday. The main clubbing season starts at the end of May, with the International Music Summit in Ibiza Town, and ends in October when the summer clubs hold their closing parties, although they often open at New Year’s Eve as well. Many internationally renowned DJs have residencies in the clubs; such successful enterprises as Cocoon and Cream take over some of the permanent venues in Ibiza, drawing big names like David Guetta and Zane Lowe. When clubbing season is over, the island still has a very lively nightlife, with Ibiza’s home-grown clubs, Pacha, Amnesia, Es Paradise and others keeping the party going.

Ibiza isn’t just a clubber’s paradise, though; there’s far more to see and do. For example, there are plenty of high-energy sports and activities on the island, including a very popular horse sanctuary, Ibiza Horse Valley, where visitors can spend a day on horseback and, by making arrangements beforehand, can even enjoy a swim with the horses. If four wheels are more your style than four legs, you might prefer to hire a quad bike to explore the beautiful woods and valleys that are home to some animals which are unique to Ibiza, such as the Ibiza hound and the Ibiza wall lizard. There are many perfect picnic spots dotted here and there, ready for when you need to take a break.

Beaches and features

Of course, this is a Balearic island and wouldn’t be such a popular destination without the customary sun, sea and sand. There are almost fifty beaches in Ibiza, including secluded coves, such as Cala Gracioneta and Cala Xuclar, which are just the place for romantic walks or uninterrupted snorkelling, as well as livelier beaches like the chic, popular Las Salinas, which is frequented by the trendy clubbing crowd. Here, you can hang out at the beach bars or rest after a night of dancing and make full use of the bars’ waiter services. With so many beaches, it’s easy to find somewhere family friendly, like Cala Bassa, with its beautiful, soft white sands and with pedalos and boats for hire, you can choose a lively day on the water or rest in the shade of the palms that connect the beach to the forest that runs along its edge.

As well as a wide range of beaches, Ibiza has accommodation of every kind, for those who want a cheap getaway or to go all inclusive on a family holiday. Visitors on a clubbing holiday are more likely to stay in one of the hotels near to Playa d’en Bossa. A luxury option is the Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel, which hosts clubbing events and parties and is a stone’s throw from other top venues, Pacha and Space. With everything you could want available in its all-inclusive packages, it would be tempting to stay in Ushaia for the whole holiday.

But even if your budget won’t stretch to luxury accommodation, there are several pocket-friendly places to stay. The Hostal Parque in the Old Town area of Ibiza Town has wifi and air conditioning but won’t break the bank, while the Hostal Mar y Sal makes up for its basic but comfortable rooms by being virtually on top of the beach. One of the many good things about Ibiza is the fact that the climate allows for winter holidays, even if it turns a little chillier in the early months of the year; it’s still a lot warmer than it is in the UK.

Three hundred days of sunshine

There’s not much rain in Ibiza, in the plain or otherwise, and it’s most likely to fall in autumn or winter with October being the wettest month, but people are prepared to swim in the sea, even during the coldest months. At the height of tourist season, during the months of June, July and August, the conditions are dry, with temperatures of between the low twenties and the low thirties, with an average of 26 degrees. A fresh breeze often blows strongly enough to keep your skin cool, but not strongly enough to be problematic.
