Holidays to Milan

Milan, although the second largest city in Italy, it may very well be the most important. It may not be thought to be one of the more beautiful cities in the country as much of it was destroyed during World War II but it is a thriving cosmopolitan mecca for those interested in business, art and culture. Milan is a paradise for those that want to be entertained, shop and socialise.

Though much of the city had been destroyed during the war, many treasures were spared. Visitors on holidays to Milan should not miss the Duomo, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world. You will also want to see the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an ancient arcaded shopping gallery like none other. The Castello Sforzesco also still stands, and is a grand medieval castle that no visitor should miss.

In addition to the old places of interest in Milan, the city has plenty of new remarkable sights. Do not miss the opportunity to see La Scala, one of the most well established opera houses in the world. If you have the time, book tickets to a show. The Pirelli Tower is a great example of modernist Italian architecture from the 1960s. The San Siro will enthral sports lovers, and art lovers will be in awe of the Brera Art Gallery, which houses some of the most priceless works of art in Europe.

So, why do so many people want to plan holidays to Milan? Of course, it is also one of the world’s fashion capitals outside of London, Paris and New York. Because fashion is such a large part of Milan’s culture, the shopping is incredible. Even if you book Milan holidays on a budget, the window shopping in Milan is definitely worth a few hours of your time, especially in the famed shopping district, Quadrilatero.

For a taste of Milan’s natural beauty, of which there is plenty outside the city streets, take boat ride on Lake Como. Ferries are available to take you on a sightseeing ride of many stately villas, picturesque towns, and other wondrous sights, seen from the boat itself.

Aside from shopping, fashion, and Lake Como, Milan is an important city for art. There are countless museums and galleries housing works of today’s greatest artists as well as some of the most famous pieces in the world. In fact, Milan is home to Da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’, which is incredibility popular with many tourists throughout the year. Notable museums you may want to visit may include the Pinacoterca di Brera, the Poldo Pezzoli Museum, the Sforzsesco Castle, and the Museum del Duomo.
