Overview

Often referred to as Europe’s best kept secret, the Republic of Croatia is a picturesque country surrounded by smaller islands, which include Hvar, Bol, Mljet and Bol. With more than 3,500 years of history, holidays to Croatia will find you in the heart of Europe’s ancient lands. Its central location makes it easy to access whether you arrive by plane, ferry, rail or car.

The country is divided into three main regions: the Mountains, the Lowland and the Littoral. These areas are further sub-divided and offer loads of desirable places for tourists to visit. For many, holidays in Croatia include visiting the surrounding islands of Porec, the Makarska Rivieria and the Krka National Park. The Plitvice Lakes along with the medieval towns of Korcula and Cavat also add to the experience of a Croatia holidays.

The capital city of Zagreb is charming, with its upper and lower town. Here you will encounter numerous museums, coffee shops, seasonal attractions and theatres. Nearby you can experience Jarun Lake, which is a very appealing spot during the summer. Mount Medvednica draws the winter crowd for its spectacular ski opportunities.

Other great places to visit during your holidays in Croatia include the cities of Osijek, Zadar, Pula, Varazdin, Rijeka and Split. It is in the city of Split where tourists can find the wondrous Diocletian’s Palace.

Croatia remains a playground for travellers visiting Europe, as the Croatian Riviera offers spectacular beaches, a perfect climate and heaps of summer festivals. The mountainous regions of the country provide great opportunities for nature lovers to enjoy hikes and spectacular national parks.

The cities and towns come alive at night with many vibrant nightclubs, pubs, festivals and live music. Kick back and enjoy an exquisite glass of some of Croatia’s finest local wine as you relax and watch the sun go down and the world pass by.

Weather

Croatia enjoys a temperate yet pleasant climate all year round. However some months do make for better travel times than others. Those seeking warmth and festivities should consider coming around the month of April. The long days and spectacular weather lasts until October.

During the summer months, from June to August, the country is in full swing with hot days and pleasant nights. It is also the busiest tourist season with packed hotels and loads of island hopping.

The coastal areas experience summer highs of 38°C during the month of August. The winter months of January can see temperatures from freezing to the mid-40s, depending on the region. January to March can see the nights become a little chilly. Even though the days are still warm and sunny the waters are a little chilly.

Currency

Any holidays in Croatia will require visitors to carry the local currency of the Kuna.
