Holidays to Tenerife

A good place to start Tenerife holidays is the capital of Santa Cruz. It is an excellent base from which to explore the north-east of the island, offers the best shopping and has a stunning backdrop of mountains. For visitors interested in history and archaeology the Pyramids at Guimar are a must see. Built on the same principles as the pyramids of Mexico, Peru and Mesopotamia they have sparked controversy among archaeologists. The site features a museum, a replica of a reed ship as well as the six pyramids.

For those who enjoy a good walk and the wonders of the natural world, the “Lunar Landscape” will be the ideal place to visit. The strange rock formations have created a scenery that is rare on earth and is said to make you feel like you are walking on the moon.

There is more natural beauty in Masca, where deep ravines, verdant flora and winding roads create one of the most picturesque parts of the island.

Tiede National Park is an amazing example of a volcanic landscape, which ranges from an almost barren desert-like environment to lush forests.

The historic city of La Laguna, the former capital, is the place for those who are interested in cultural holidays to Tenerife. Stunning religious buildings such as the Cathedral, the Church of Santo Domingo and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción will provide visitors with plenty of photo opportunities. There are also museums in the town including the Cathedral Museum and the Casa Ossuna Museum.

Another architecturally interesting town is La Orotava, located in the heart of the banana plantations. This colourful and beautiful town will captivate you.

The island enjoys many fiestas throughout the year with the festivals of Corpus Christi in June, Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria in August and San Andrés in November being among the highlights.

Active people are catered for on Tenerife holidays. There are a huge variety of sports and pastimes to choose from including deep-sea fishing, diving, sailing; cycling, golf, carting, tennis and much more. If you prefer to relax on a beach then Tenerife won’t disappoint. Places like Playa De Las Americas and Los Cristianos offer everything the discerning beach lover could wish for.

If you need something to keep the kids occupied there is an excellent aqua park that includes a dolphin show, water rides and slides and pools. Loro Parque also features dolphins as well as orcas, sea lions, penguins, gorillas, chimpanzees and an aquarium featuring sharks among the tropical species.

The island’s cooking has been influenced by not only Spanish cuisine but the tastes of Africa and Latin America. The nightlife of Tenerife will entertain you into the early hours with clubs, bars as well as the excellent restaurants.

Holidays to Tenerife will bring travellers natural wonders, attractive towns, exciting activities, stunning food and a treasure chest of memories to cherish.
