Winter holidays in Bulgaria will no doubt entail skiing, an activity that the country is well known for. There are several excellent ski opportunities, from rugged snow capped peaks to soft inclined slopes. Bansko ski resort is surrounded by the Rhodopa, Pirin and Rila mountains. Bulgaria is also known for its all-year-round sunshine. Sun seekers will need to head to the east where they will discover the only coastline the country has. Here you will find the Black Sea with its golden beaches and warm waters. The beaches are long, inviting and safe, as the coastal tides are always calm. Better known beaches include the appropriately named Sunny Beach in the Bourgas Region and Golden Sands in the Barna Region. Both are well established and close to accommodation, resorts and entertainment, including nightclubs, cafes and hundreds of restaurants.

Sightseeing should include the beautiful town of Nessebur. This town is one of Bulgaria’s oldest settlements. This charming medieval town is adorned with spectacular architecture, which has gained it a UNESCO World Heritage status.

The towns of Bulgaria are filled with numerous museums, historical monuments, shopping plazas, outdoor activities and of course, restaurants. For several years Bulgaria has been ranked as one of the least expensive tourist destinations for travellers. With more then 230 miles of sandy beaches, 8 of which are rated Blue Flags, and an average temperature of 29°C, it is easy to see why holidays to Bulgaria are a top choice.
