Holidays to Kamloops

With hot, dry summers and short, mild winters, holidays in Kamloops are worth considering during most times of the year, and there is no shortage of things to do. Outdoor activities such as hiking, rock-climbing, horse-riding, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, bird watching and wildlife viewing, and nature photography tours are just a few of the options available. Visitors in the winter months will have skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling and sledding, ice fishing, and sleigh rides to choose from as well.

Kamloops hosted the 1993 Canada Summer Games and the city has a large number of world-class sports venues, as well as several professional sports teams. The Kamloops Blazers ice hockey team have several trophies to their name, while the Kamloops Broncos represent the city in American football. Sport is a big part of life in Kamloops and a major source of income, and there has been substantial investment in providing first-rate modern sports facilities. Holidays in Kamloops should include attending one of the many sporting events the city has to offer.

Kamloops is an excellent destination for golfers who can take advantage of 13 highly rated courses, and there is a wide selection of parks to enjoy, as well as beaches along the side of the North and South Thompson Rivers. For those who prefer to take their exercise in the form of serious shopping, Kamloops won’t disappoint; the city offers several shopping centres and malls, while the downtown area has chic boutiques and designer outlets to check out. The Kamloops Regional Farmers' Market is also open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After all that shopping, visitors can relax with a visit to one of the city’s spas and wellness centres.

The arts and culture scene is another important part of the experience one has available to them while on Kamloops holidays. There are several galleries including the Kamloops Art Gallery, which features four distinctively designed spaces dedicated to different artists. Live orchestral music is performed by the Kamloops Symphony which offers regular performances from September to May, and the Western Canada Theatre Company is based in Kamloops. Children and culture buffs are well catered for with the Kamloops Heritage Railway and the Kamloops Museum & Archives.

The city has a busy festival schedule with the Kamloops Canadian and International Film Festival, the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts, and the largest cowboy festival in Canada – the Kamloops Cowboy Festival – being particular highlights.
