Holidays to Ottawa

Tours can acquaint you with this lovely city during your holidays to Ottawa, voted one of the cleanest in the world. Walking tours will take you through various neighbourhoods, and the guides are bi-lingual (English-French). See some of the beautiful historical buildings, parks and gardens, and modern attractions. If you want a little more excitement, an amphibious bus can take you around the city by both land and water. This tour also offers hop-on, hop-off access so you can explore favourite sights at your leisure. Ottawa is also home to one of Canada’s last operating steam trains, which is an unforgettable way to take a relaxing 64-km ride and see the true beauty of this area. The train is turned around in Wakefield on the last operating manual turntable in Canada.

During holidays in Ottawa, be sure to find some shopping excitement at one of the numerous large stores or small boutiques. Downtown you’ll find the ByWard Market and Rideau Centre, among many fine shopping centres. You can spend the day inside, out of the weather, and find unique gifts to take home for yourself or others. West Ottawa and East Ottawa also have many things on offer, and you can duck into the Bayshore Shopping Centre in West Ottawa or the Place d’Orleans Shopping Mall in East Ottawa. The Bank Street Promenade has nearly 500 shops covering 15 city blocks. During the summer months, check out their sidewalk sales for great bargains on unique buys. From GoldArt Studio to Canadian Camera and from the Maison de la Presse to the Cookware Centre, you’ll find something irresistible during holidays in Ottawa.

Outstanding accommodation is the order of the day whilst on holidays in Ottawa. Check in at the Westin Ottawa, with stunning views of downtown, including the Parliament buildings, or choose a room or suite at the Novotel Ottawa. Both these hotels offer a full range of services, including a restaurant and bar on the premises, a gym and an indoor pool. Nearer to the Casino du Lac-Leamy, you’ll find the Hilton Lac-Leamy, with 349 rooms, most of which have views of the adjacent lakes, concierge service, executive floors and lounge, and surrounded by running and cycling trails leading to Gatineau Park.

Whilst on your Ottawa holidays, be sure to watch a hockey game! It’s not just the national pastime; it’s an obsession. Watching the fans is nearly as much fun as watching the game, and you’ll leave Ottawa with some unique memories to take home with you, as well as, maybe, a hockey jersey.
