Holidays to Niagara Falls

From gaming to shopping, dining to outdoor sports, the greater Niagara Falls area has it all. The area is actually made up of four different regions: Falls Region, River Region, Lake Region and Canal Region. The Falls Region is where most people visit. Located only 20 minutes from Buffalo International Airport and only an hour from Toronto, holidays to Niagara Falls have a long history of attracting visitors with the breathtaking natural beauty of the 50-metre high falls.

Niagara Falls is actually made up of several falls, the most famous being American, Horseshoe and Bridal Veil falls. A favourite tourist activity — almost a must-see for any visitor — is a ride on the Maid of the Mist scenic boat tour that takes you very near the base of the falls. A waterproof poncho is given to all visitors, because you will experience the power of the falls firsthand. For land-based options, the Scenic Trolley offers a hop-on, hop-off tour of three miles in length. There are several attractions near the falls, including a Discovery Centre, Observation Tower, and the outstanding Top of the Falls Restaurant, featuring tiered indoor dining and two outdoor decks. The Daredevil Museum celebrates those adventurous folk who went over the falls, whether in a wooden barrel or some other contraption. For adventurous travellers, visit the Cave of the Winds, where you can walk a catwalk right into the rushing wind from the waterfall.

Tribal gaming is available in several locations during holidays to Niagara Falls. The Seneca Niagara Casino is located in Niagara Falls, New York, and two other casinos are across the river in Canada: the Fallsview Casino and Casino Niagara. All of these casinos offer a full range of gaming options, from slot machines to table games. There’s even a high-limit slot area and a non-smoking area. Canada’s tallest hotel tower is the Hilton Niagara Falls Fallsview, which is linked to the Fallsview Casino via an enclosed glass walkway. The hotel includes spa facilities, restaurant, bar, pool and fitness centre. The Marriott Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel & Spa is the closest to the Canadian side of Horseshoe Falls and offers an on-site spa, along with fine dining and concierge services for your Niagara Falls holidays.

When taking holidays to Niagara Falls, be sure to visit Pen Centre, a mall with over 180 shops located on Glendale Avenue. A favourite stop for visitors, you’ll find duty-free and specialty shops here. The Fashion Outlets Mall on Military Road has over 150 brand name outlets where you can find shoes, bags, clothing and household items. The hidden gems of Niagara Falls are the wineries. Several are located on the outskirts of the city, and offer tastings and tours. If you visit Niagara Falls in January, be sure to partake in the Icewine Festival.

Niagara Falls has a little bit of everything to offer, and makes for a very enjoyable holiday destination.
