Holidays to Cairo

Cairo holidays offer a great opportunity to explore the largest city in Africa and are a time-honoured tradition with travellers from across the world. Holidays in Cairo are perfect for history buffs, with the world famous pyramids at Giza and the stunning Sphinx only a short hop away. Marvel at these awe-inspiring structures and take a tour of the surrounding desert by camel, before witnessing an incredible Egyptian sunset.

For many visitors, Cairo holidays are all about pharaohs and mummies and would not be complete without a visit to the Egyptian museum, which is home to some of the most significant finds in history. Amongst its most popular exhibits are those on display in the Tutankhamun Galleries, the showcase for the contents of the famous pharaoh’s tomb, which were brought to the city after the excavations at Luxor.

No visit to Cairo would be complete without spending some time in the Citadel, a stone stronghold that started life in the 12th Century, with the later addition of the Mosque of Mohammed Ali. The site, which towers above the modern city, offers a unique insight into Cairo’s past, as well as some spectacular panoramic views, which can, on a clear day, include the pyramids.

Visitors to Cairo will have plenty of opportunity for some serious retail therapy, from exploring the numerous street markets that are synonymous with the city, to checking out the big brand stores, which are there to serve visitors and locals alike. If you wish try your hand at shopping, Egyptian style, be ready to haggle with the local traders who offer an intoxicating range of souvenirs and gifts.
