Torremolinos Holidays

It was one of the first foreign resorts to attract crowds of British tourists by offering cheap package holidays, way back in the 1950s, but Torremolinos is far from a has-been. It still attracts visitors from all over Europe, and has kept its place as the top holiday resort in Spain by keeping up with the times and constantly improving and innovating. This Costa del Sol resort lies in the south of Spain, and stretches along a long, curved, bay. The Sierra de Mijas Mountains give it a sheltered climate that brings sunshine on most days of the year. Holidaymakers can enjoy mild weather even in the winter, and temperatures soar to the high 20s in June and September and reach around 30°C in the peak summer months of July and August. A direct train service connects Malaga and its airport to Torremolinos, and all parts of the resort are easy to reach either on foot, or using one of the regular local buses.

Who goes to Torremolinos

Most visitors come to Torremolinos for its classic mix of sun, sea and sand. Some parts of the resort still have an authentic, Spanish feel; particularly in the district of La Carihuela, where you can relax in traditional ‘chiringuito’ beach cafes or dine in excellent local seafood restaurants. Torremolinos is the most popular holiday resort for the Spanish, although there are still plenty of British and Irish pubs and restaurants that serve international cuisine, for those who want a taste of home in the sun. Take to the seas along the spectacular coastline, with windsurfing, water skiing, kite-surfing and a whole range of pedal boats. Dolphin watching boat trips are also popular, and depart from the marina at Benalmadena. The Costa del Sol’s biggest theme park, Tivoli World, lies about 3km from Torremolinos, and there is a large family waterpark called Aqualand and a Sea Life aquarium. While these are just some of the many attractions that make this the perfect place for a family holiday, when the sun goes down, the nightlife starts. The busiest clubbing areas are around the main street, Calle San Miguel, and the La Nogalera area, and there has been a thriving gay scene here ever since the small fishing village became a holiday resort. Enjoy fun and games at some of the wildest and most hedonistic clubs in Europe, with music that ranges from techno and house to salsa and flamenco.

Hotels & Apartments in Torremolinos

Nearly half of all the accommodation in the Costa del Sol is located in Torremolinos, so finding a hotel to suit your taste and your budget is an easy task. Whether you want a cheap base to return to after a long day on the beach, or would prefer some five-star luxury at an all inclusive resort complex, there is plenty of competition among hotels, leading to very attractive offers and price deals. Most hotels are located right on the beach, with private sea access, such as the Hotel Riu Nautilus or the Sol Don Pablo, but even those away from the sea usually have pools and water features to let guests take advantage of the endless sunshine. Apartments are another popular option, with lots of good value self-catering accommodation, such as Apartamentos Alegria and Bajondillo Apartments

Attractions in and around Torremolinos

The main attractions of Torremolinos are its world-famous beaches. The sweeping, 7km-long promenade links the six main beaches, from Playa de Bajondilo and Carihuela in the centre of town to Playamar and Los Alamos in the east. Long flights of steps lead down the beach, or the less energetic can take a pay lift. Playas de Torrequebrada, also called Benalnatura, is the area’s only official nudist beach, and San Julian beach includes the swanky Paramor National Hotel and Golf Club. All the beaches are wide and sandy, and very clean and well maintained.
